Method Illuminate\View\View::render does not exist

Error Message

BadMethodCallException: Method Illuminate\View\View::render does not exist

Cause

Calling render() on a View object that has already been rendered or is being used incorrectly. Usually occurs when trying to render a view inside another view without using @include or @extends.

Solution

Use @include to embed views, Blade components, or return the view from the controller. Don\'t call render() on View objects directly.

Code Example

Fix
// Wrong - don\'t call render() directly
return view('posts.show')->render();

// Right - return the view from controller
public function show(Post $post)
{
    return view('posts.show', compact('post'));
}

// Include partials in Blade
@include('partials.sidebar')

// Blade components
<x-sidebar />

Debugging Steps

  1. Check the controller return type
  2. Verify Blade syntax for includes
  3. Look for manual render() calls
  4. Check component usage

Prevention

Return views from controllers directly. Use Blade directives for view composition. Avoid manual rendering unless absolutely necessary.
